Final Projects
Consistent with my research interests and the liberal arts tradition of Colorado College, my approach to teaching is grounded in cultural studies methodologies and historical contextualization that integrates film, music, art performances, and literature from Latin America, the Caribbean. At Colorado College, I have taught courses at all levels of the language curriculum, from SP101 to SP350. Across all these courses, I center on experiential teaching methodologies or experiential learning. The students actively engage with the course material in a dynamic and collaborative atmosphere. Experiential teaching offers students a more informative and memorable learning experience. For example, in Intermediate Spanish courses, students write, stage, and perform a play. While I edit their script, they can choose the theme and visuals. This activity is a valuable opportunity to apply and reinforce the Spanish they have learned throughout the course. In SP306 courses, students select a concept they wish to explore in depth and develop their research around it through interviews and other approaches.

What Is Latinidad?
This group interviewed students and staff at Colorado College to explore different perspectives on Latinidad. Does the concept include Afro-Latinos and Indigenous peoples?

Some of the staff members mentioned in this project were from the Butler Center, a campus resource dedicated to supporting diversity, equity, and inclusion at Colorado College.
Plays for Language Courses
Familia García: For their SP201 final project, students were divided into four groups, each tasked with presenting a play exploring the dynamics of a family. Working collaboratively, they wrote their scripts in Spanish, rehearsed, and refined their grammar before performing together in class in 2024. This group's play was titled 'Familia García.' Through this project, students strengthened their oral proficiency, collaborative skills, and creative use of the Spanish language.
El sobreviviente: Students engaged in an adaptation of the reality television program Survivor, in which contestants are stranded in a remote location and compete. Through a series of rotating stations, students explored strategies for confronting adversity, collaboratively developed their scripts, and produced a dynamic final performance. The event culminated in a public presentation, to which students invited friends and I invited college staff and faculty.

Victoria: ¡Hola! Me llamo Victoria, pero puedes llamarme “la campeona”. Tengo 21 años y soy de Colorado. Soy instructora de Yoga y tengo mucho equilibrio. Puedo levantar 200 kilogramos. Estar aquí ha sido mi sueño desde muy joven.
Cassidy: ¡Que pasa! Me llamo Cass y soy de Cali. Soy una bombera. Yo quiero ganar porque necesito una cirugía de espalda. Si no me opero, no puedo trabajar, y quiero ayudar a muchas personas. Tengo miedo de vivir en la isla porque mi espalda siempre me duele, pero puedo hacerlo.
